The Bow Wave

The Burning Ship map z -> (|Re z| + i|Im z|)^2 + c iterated over the parameter plane, framed on a narrow strip of the waterline west of the main hull where the boundary rolls into breakers. Open water and open air return nearly the same distance estimate, so the escape count grades a coloured ground and the distance estimate adds light on top of it. The escape count also separates crest from hull skirt, and the skirt is damped above 5.9 so it reads as a shadowed bank.
